FAQs
-
How fast do you go? Pace varies based on day and group. You will have someone to run with if you are running in the sub-7:00 pace to 10:00 pace range. The majority of group runners stay around 9:00 pace. Tuesday is a good day to push yourself with Speed Work with Coach Jerode. Sunday mornings are good days for relaxing and recovering.
-
How much does it cost? How much does it cost?? Nothing; running is free. We hope to build community, company, and companionship through group runs.
-
Where do the runs start from? Meet at the shop--2nd floor, The Shops @ Columbus Circle (59th & 8th). Stretch, warm up, chat, change, shop, hang out until we head out.
-
Where do I sign up? We have separate email lists for the Marathon Training Group, Tuesday Speed Work, and Wednesday Women's run which provide you with important information, but it is not required to sign up--just show up.
-
Can I change into my running gear at the store? Umm, shyea! No worries if you're coming straight from work, or if you feel a little too scandalous wearing your short shorts on the subway--we're technically a retail store, so (conveniently) there are three fitting rooms. We'll watch over any bags you have (new and improved bag check system in the works!).
-
Do you run in any weather? It would take seriously dangerous conditions to keep us from running. Call ahead to discover if we consider the weather dangerous. While we'll be ready to go, the weather is often a key player in group runner turn out.
-
How many people usually come? Turnout is farely consistent, but is subject to ebbs and flows based on weather and training schedules. Typically, there are around ten people to run with. The Marathon Training Group has about 60 participants.
-
Can I participate as a beginner? Of course. The majority of our group runners consider themselves beginners (some training for their first 5k, some for their first marathon, and some just looking to stay fit and run with friends).
-
Where do we run? The vast majority of the time we run through the park. The Marathon Training Group Sunday run will be spiced up as the distances become longer (nobody wants to run 3+ loops in the park). The (at least) once a month "Fun Run" takes us to different places (Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, Astoria Beer Garden, Doughnut Plant, Magnolia, etc). We're open for new routes, and Fun Run suggestions.
-
Do I have to go the full distance? There's no minimum distance. If you're not ready to run a full 3 miles, or if you're not feeling great that day, or there's an injury nagging you, it's best to run shorter. Eventually you'll build up to that distance, or feel better, or heal that injury.
